Danielle Lopes hails from Brazil and has been in Sydney for three years. She incorporates Brazilian moves into her belly dancing to create her own original style. She has already held one workshop and is planning more - watch this space for details!
This is an unusual clip for this site - a dancer practising at home rather than performing in public - but it’s worth seeing!
Magdalena is from Sweden and has studied in Cairo.
Jane is another of Sydney’s established belly dancing stars. This clip is an interesting compilation of several performances.
See more videos (as well as some gorgeous photos - wow, what costumes!) on her website, Belly Dance Harem.
As well as being in demand as a performer, Jane teaches in the inner city.
Lina is a recent - and welcome! - import to our shores. Originally from Hungary, she’s already making her mark on the Australian belly dance scene, as this video shows:
You can catch Lina performing at the El Mustafa restaurant in Glebe, and as a guest teacher at the Newtown Middle Eastern Dance Centre.
What Australian belly dance site would be complete without Terezka?
This video shows her in action in class at her Sydney belly dance studio.
Visit her website, Terezka’s World of Danse Orientale
It’s worth joining her mailing list to be notified of her excellent annual ball and regular overseas belly dance trips.

Debra’s Urban Qabila belly dance troupe has a spectacular speciality - dancing with fire!
Debra is also a key player behind this year’s Tribal and Trance Festival in September. There will be some great belly dance workshops, many of which will also appeal to non-tribal dancers, a market and a “Red Carpet Night” performance.
If the “Taster” [...]

As well as being in demand as a solo belly dance performer in her own right, she’s a key member of the Farrah folkloric troupe. She also has her own website.
Daria teaches belly dancing in the south of Sydney, at Kogarah and Taren Point. As a performer, she recently staged the major production “1001 Arabian Nights” which had a successful run at various clubs. Let’s hope it has another outing soon!

This class video shows her wonderful posture and control.
Visit her website at www.hilarycinis.com
No list of Australian belly dance performers would be complete without Shiva. Yes, he is a male!
I have to confess I’m not entirely comfortable with the concept of male belly dancing - but judging by his huge fan base, I’m in a tiny minority! There’s no doubting that technically, he leaves most female belly dancers [...]
I began my belly dance journey with Shemiran. She’s an excellent teacher for beginners, thanks to her structured approach to teaching. Her ability to break down and explain the movements, teaching them in manageable groups, provides a solid foundation. She’s also very focussed on encouraging students to improvise and express themselves through dance.
Shemiran has now [...]
Jrisi is another wonderful Sydney-based belly dancer and teacher. Her work reflects the fusion of her many dance influences and her wonderful technique, which she is now sharing on her new DVD.
