Alexandra (aka Sandra Rather) co-founded the Central Coast school – Desert Flame School of Belly Dance, in 1998. With 15 years of belly dance “under her belt” Alexandra’s passion for dance expression, nurturing of the feminine spirit and her love of playfulness within the dance traditions – has kept her students enthusiastic and her performances enchanting.
She is the current resident dancer (and agent) at The Arabian Lounge Lebanese restaurant at The Entrance, NSW. She has performed extensively at Anatolia’s Turkish Restaurant Newcastle and Sirens Greek Restaurant, Terrigal.
Alexandra has facilitated many workshops over the years at the Sydney MED Festival, Mid North Coast MED Festival, Newcastle’s Evolution Festival and locally on the Central Coast at Peats Ridge Music Festival & CoastFest. Offering students the opportunity to performs at local events, charity functions, fairs and festival – gives many women the chance to shine !
A few highlights of her career have been performing as the “Queen of Sheba’ at the 2006 Sydney MED Festivals Gala Concert – Orientalism, for which she received the first ever Research and Development award, awarded to a dancer by the Sydney Middle Eastern Dance Festival this year. http://www.sydmedfest.com/archive/2006.shtml
Performing with bands such as Sirrocco, Arabesk and Heval also have been some highlights. Alexandra performs regularly at Bracket and Jam on the Central Coast.
