Like it or not, our audience tends to expect belly dancers to have long, flowing tresses - in fact for some dances, like Khaleegy, the hair is an essential part of the performance!
If you wear your hair short in real life, the obvious solution is a hairpiece. But beware - make sure you rehearse in it before you wear it on stage, and look at yourself in the mirror while you're dancing! Clips and gel can keep your loose ends neatly in place when you're at a ball or a wedding, but start tossing your head in a belly dance and it's a different story. The hairpiece can also bounce and lift, making it embarrassingly obvious it's not really you.
One solution is a wig, and these days they can be quite inexpensive. Steer clear of "party wigs" which usually have an unattractive sheen and an unconvincing hairline. They can be hot, but then so is a hairpiece if you have to wear a turban, padded headband or swathed scarf to hide the join!
