Anita’s Celestial Gems Belly Dance School is based in Gympie, Queensland. Here they are in their “Jewels of the Nile Extravaganza”!
I love Anita’s way of describing her belly dance classes – instead of beginners, intermediate etc, she has Emerging Emeralds, Shimmering Sapphires and Diamond Divas!

Interview with belly dancer Anita Ferguson
How did you get started with belly dancing?
I started attending belly dance classes after having our 3rd child. I saw an article about bellydancing in our local newspaper and thought I’d give it a go.
What is your favourite belly dancing style and/or prop?
I don’t have just one favourite style. My favourites would be Drum Solo, Classical and favourite props would be Silk Veils, Swords.
Who or what has had the greatest influence on your belly dance style?
Jrisi Jusakos has been the greatest influence.
What advice would you offer an aspiring belly dancer?
To be patient, don’t expect to be able to do everything straight away. Try to experience other teachers/dancers by attending workshops and concerts and for goodness sake have fun and enjoy yourself.
