Interview with Belly Dancer Rishi

How did you get started with belly dancing?
A friend at work suggested we go to a lesson and I was ecstatic that he (yes he!) had asked as I had secretly been daydreaming about going for ages. I was hooked from my first lesson and that was 10 years ago.

What is your favourite belly dancing style and/or prop?
I don’t really have a favourite “style” though I guess most would say I lean to cabaret side of things. I really just like dancing to upbeat music. I love Arabic pop, LOVE drum solos, classical egyptian. But then again I have a love for Saiidi too  :-)

Who or what has had the greatest influence on your belly dance style?
The music. I am in love with it, and when a great song comes on I cant help but start dancing. It feels like the music is actually moving through my body. Its fantastic!

What advice would you offer an aspiring belly dancer?
Find a good teacher, learn your technique and then your individual expression will follow.
