Jamil has been trialling/running an advanced class at Amera's Palace this year and i have attended regularly. Aside from being a generous and intelligent soul with a strong commitment to his own education, Jamil is a highly stimulating and knowledgeable teacher. He focuses strongly on technique but this is not a copy and learn class because he expects and encourages students at this level to apply their own signature to the various movements being studied. We move quickly but effectively through challenging choreographies (usually one a week) from an array of modern and traditional styles. Jamil shares his knowledge of contemporary but also timeless and traditional movements and this gives his teaching integrity. He pushes for precision in execution and makes me both think and sweat hard; week in week out. I love it. Jamil is a very gifted teacher (especially at his age) and I’m so pleased to be training with him – he certainly brings out the best in me. This is truly an advanced (and very much needed) class and I feel compelled to spread the word.
