I’m delighted to include another tribal belly dance teacher/performer, this time from Brisbane.
Dee’s troupe is the Tribal Blossoms.
I’m looking forward to meeting Dee at the Tribal and Trance Festival in Sydney in September.
Everyone on the Sydney belly dance scene will be familiar with my next feature artist, Rachel.
As well as being in demand as a solo belly dance performer in her own right, she’s a key member of the Farrah folkloric troupe. She also has her own website.
Daria teaches belly dancing in the south of Sydney, at Kogarah and Taren Point. As a performer, she recently staged the major production “1001 Arabian Nights” which had a successful run at various clubs. Let’s hope it has another outing soon!
You’ll find various clips from the show on Youtube. I’ve chosen this one, [...]
Hilary is probably the pre-eminent tribal belly dancer in Sydney (I’m excluding Devi on the grounds that she’s in the Blue Mountains!!).
This class video shows her wonderful posture and control.
Visit her website at www.hilarycinis.com
No list of Australian belly dance performers would be complete without Shiva. Yes, he is a male!
I have to confess I’m not entirely comfortable with the concept of male belly dancing - but judging by his huge fan base, I’m in a tiny minority! There’s no doubting that technically, he leaves most female belly dancers [...]
I began my belly dance journey with Shemiran. She is an excellent teacher for beginners, thanks to her structured approach to teaching.
Shemiran’s ability to break down and explain the movements, teaching them in manageable groups, provides a solid foundation. She is also very focussed on encouraging students to improvise and express themselves through dance.
Shemiran has [...]
Shameela teaches belly dancing on the Central Coast. Her Indian heritage informs her dance style, and she has recently produced an instructional DVD on it, of which this clip is a taster.
If you like the DVD, you can buy it at her website, Indra Bellydance
You’ll find her classes listed at Women of Wisdom. And finally, [...]
Renee is another Central Coast belly dance teacher. She has produced several instructional belly dance DVD’s which can be found on her website, bellydancing.com.au
Katina is a teacher based in Brisbane. Her school, Queen of the Nile Bellydance, offers classes in flamenco, Bollywood, tribal fusion, Tahitian hula and burlesque fusion as well as belly dance, and has expanded to offer classes in Sydney (taught by Jane Jardine).
The video above shows the premier of her “BellyFunk” style!
Ayelet Ashkar teaches belly dancing in Ocean Shores, on the NSW North Coast near Byron Bay.
Her website is ashkarmusicanddance.com
Devi Mamak is the first of our tribal belly dance teachers to be featured on the site. She is the most qualified ATS teacher in Australia, based in the Blue Mountains. Her troupe, Ghawazi Caravan, is renowned for its crisp ensemble work, atmospheric choreography and, of course, those fabulous tribal costumes. In this video, Devi [...]
